Starting from last month

Roll-forward: starting a month

One button starts the new month from the last one. What it fills, and what it deliberately leaves blank, is the most honest thing about this board.

Fixed versus data-driven

Every recurring entry is classified by what drives its number. Entries proven flat month over month (a straight-line amortization that has not moved in years) are carried in, filled, and flagged for confirmation. Entries driven by the month's data (payroll, commissions, percentage of completion, cash movements) are left blank, with last month's figures printed beside them as reference and a plain statement of what they are waiting for.

The fixed list grows only by proof across real months, never by assumption. A quiet entry is not the same as a fixed one: the depreciation that sits at $3,200 for months and then spikes when assets go in service is exactly why.

A carried draft is labelled, not silent

A filled entry shows "Carried from last month, filled. Confirm against this month's schedule." Drop the current schedule on it and the board re-reads and confirms every figure; anything that moved refuses, naming the exact lines that changed.

Why the blanks are a feature

A figure that is typed for you is a figure nobody checks. On a real mid-size close, only a handful of entries are provably fixed, so the button fills few and says why for the rest. That is the design working, not the design falling short.

The standing rule

The AI drafts. A human confirms. Nothing posts to the ledger on its own. Everything on this page tightens attention on that rule; nothing replaces it.
